The ski slopes of Skardsdalur overlook the glorious Siglufjord in the very north of Iceland. As well as beautiful skiing both on and off-piste you can also enjoy incredible views north towards the Arctic Ocean alongside other fantastic Icelandic experiences.
Skiing in Siglufjörður
The peaceful fishing village of Siglufjörður is right on the edge of the fjord and is just a short drive from the small but perfectly formed Skardsdalur ski resort that overlooks the majestic town and fjord of Siglufjörður. Boasting some of the most memorable ski slopes in Iceland, this compact resort delivers some incredible skiing; with gentle well-groomed slopes for beginner to intermediate skiers, and some challenging un-groomed runs for more advanced skiers, all with a backdrop that will leave you breathless. The ski slopes at Skardsdalur are also floodlit so you can ski year round and well into the stunning star studded evenings.
For more experienced skiers and those in search of an adrenaline rush, Siglufjordur is a fantastic base from which to venture into the now infamous off-piste areas of northern Iceland. The surrounding almost un-touched mountains and fjords are perfect for heli skiing, cat skiing and ski touring.

The right slopes for me?
Okay. Wide, open slopes makes this a nice place to practice but with limited lesson availability Siglufjordur is good for those that have an idea of the basics.
Great. Small but perfectly formed the majority of the slopes are red and blue here, so with quiet slopes and lift queues almost unheard of you’ll have a wonderful time exploring the stunning area and taking in the beautiful fjord views.
Good. On slope challenges are limited but Siglufjordur is a fantastic base for those keen to take their skiing off the slopes. With great opportunities for heli-skiing, cat-skiing and ski-touring you’ll be spoilt for choice.
There are routes available for keen cross-country skiers but these aren’t cut tracks and require a good level of skill and provisions.
Okay. Siglufjordur’s lifts are all drag lifts, but if they don’t bother you then enjoy the powder at the edge of the slopes for a great day on the snow.
